Head Varsity Coach – Mike Pangborn – 1st Year at BVNW

Coach Pangborn is in his first year as the Head Coach at Blue Valley Northwest.  His previous coaching positions include six years as an assistant coach at Blue Valley Southwest, three years as the Head Coach at Sherwood High School in Missouri, and one year as the varsity assistant at Kettle Moraine High School in Dousman, Wisconsin.  At Blue Valley Southwest, Coach Pangborn served at all levels of the program.  Most recently he served as the Infield Coordinator in 2020 and the Catching Coordinator in 2019, both as a varsity assistant.  At Sherwood High School, Coach Pangborn went 49-21 with 2 consecutive District Championship runner-ups.  During his time, the program claimed their first Conference Championship in school history, was ranked for the first time in Class 3A in the state of Missouri, and saw five players go on to play collegiate baseball.  One of those players is still playing for the Baltimore Orioles organization.  At Kettle Moraine, Coach Pangborn served as the catching coordinator for the varsity team, where they finished as the State Runner-up in Division 1 summer baseball.  While teaching at Blue Valley Southwest he also coached four years of basketball from Freshman B to Varsity assistant, and three years of football all as the Freshmen offensive coordinator.

Coach Pangborn attended Arrowhead High School, in Hartland, Wisconsin.  He participated in football, basketball, and baseball. He earned 1st Team All-Conference and All-Area honors as a wide receiver in football, and Honorable Mention in baseball. After high school, he attended Beloit College where he played three years of football and baseball.  He graduated from Rockhurst University with a degree in Education and Mathematics.  He is currently in the process of completing his Graduate degree from Emporia State.

Coach Pangborn has been married to his wife Jessica for 14 years.  Jessica is a Speech Pathologist in the Overland Park area.  They have three children: Mason – 14 – Freshman – Blue Valley Southwest, Broderick – 11 – 5th Grade – Morse Elementary, and Adelyn – 8 – 3rd Grade – Timber Sage Elementary.


Assistant Varsity Coach/Pitching Coordinator – Cole Newell – 3rd Year

Coach Newell is in his 3rd season on the Blue Valley Northwest staff.  He is a former collegiate pitcher for Emporia State where he graduated with a Bachelor in Science in Communication, Public Relations and Marketing.  Specializing in pitching, Coach Newell has developed BVNW’s pitching program and philosophy that helped them win a Regional Championship in his first season. He created CN Pitching Performance, along with online programs like $5 Arm Care and the Changeup eBook, and currently works with athletes from 14 organizations in Major League Baseball.  Coach Newell has recently partnered with baseball companies; CleanFuego, PitchLogic, Towel Trainer and iSMART Innovations, in an effort to advance pitching performance.  Coach Newell is married to his wife Rachael.  

Assistant Varsity Coach/Catching and Hitting Coordinator – Collin Carter – 1st Year

Coach Carter is entering his 4th year coaching high school baseball in the Blue Valley School District. He is also an assistant football coach in the district, and has coached summer baseball for many years in the past. Coach Carter attended and played catcher at Johnson County Community college before graduating from Emporia State University in 2018 with a degree in Physical Education and a minor in Coaching. During his time at ESU, Coach Carter spent time as the bullpen catcher for the baseball team. He is married to his wonderful wife Amy, and they are excited to welcome their first child in May!



C-Team Head Coach/Assistant Pitching Coordinator – Chase Gooding – 1st Year

Coach Gooding is from Fargo, North Dakota, where he grew up with five sisters and one brother.  He attended West Fargo High School, where he complied a record of 7-0 with a 0.92 ERA over his junior and senior years.  Out of high school, he attended Allen County Community College for two years where he went from a two way player to a pitcher only.  At Allen CC, Coach Gooding finished his two years with a 9-3 record and 134 strikeouts over 106 innings pitched.  He was given the opportunity to extend his playing career at the University of North Carolina at Charolette.  Coach Gooding appeared in 43 games over his two years.  He had a 7-3 record, 96 strikeouts in 96.1 IP, and a 4.20 ERA.  Coach Gooding is currently coaching 14u players at Natural Baseball Academy.

D-Team Head Coach/Outfield Coordinator – Travis George – 3rd Year

Coach George has been a police officer for 26 years and retired as a Lieutenant from the Belton, MO, Police Department in 2018.  He has been with the district for the past 2 ½ years and serves as a Campus Police Officer/School Resource Officer.  Coach George joined the Blue Valley NW baseball staff in 2018 and was the D team coach.  He played baseball in high school and coached youth league baseball for 8 years.  He is also a wrestling coach at Blue Valley SW and a middle school football coach at Harmony Middle School.  Coach George had a short stint with college football at Missouri Western State University, completed his undergrad at the University of Central MO, and graduate work at Lincoln University.  He has two sons, one who is 21 and finishing his degree at Pittsburg State University, and the other who is 18 and playing college football at the University of Northern Iowa.
